ZEN MAGNETS - Neodymium Magnetic Balls (@216) - Hex Sheet Origami variations.
These are concepts and entries for the Zen Magnets March 2015 Contest 44: Hex Sheet Origami.
All designs started out with a single-layer of 216 Zen Magnets in a hexagonal sheet (8 radius, with a hole in the middle) and folded with the rule that no tearing or ripping, meaning each sphere must continue next to the neighbors it started out touching.
LittleKev's Cocoon - folded by my 8 year old son (photographed by me).
"I molded the cone shape and pinched the sides to form the opening."
Alien Face / Helmet:
The hex sheet was pinched and folded into a 3d face/helmet sculpture by creating a pinched initial cone shape and reverse folding another cone back over on it self while flattening the sides to form the eye openings. The sheet did not like to hold any folds until the magnetic attraction set in. When viewed at the proper angle, the final shape appears to look like an alien face or helmet.
pinch 3 corner edges together to form the triangle. Pinch center edge of each side to form the central hex.
Hex-Sheet Origami Triangle v1-3:
pinch 3 corner edges together to form the triangle. Then pinch down the sides towards the base. Adjust the triangle upper edges by pinching or opening. V1 variation reverse fold the base triangle back and raise the inside edges up while pinching the corners to a point.
Lighting Setup: Color Changing Crystal LED light base.
